After many rumours going back and forth for quite a while, and following a Japanese site's inadvertent posting of the details, Canon has today gone public with its new 50D.

Unfortunately it was a bit of a wash out this weekend so there wasn't much happening. I managed to shoot these two ladies during a moments respite in the rain.
Since Flickr's announcement about its linking up with Getty Images it appears they may be looking to stop photographers who offer professional services from linking to their own personal sites.
Pablo Vincente, like many others, includes a link to his own web site - Digital Pixels - alongside the images he posts. However he recently received an email from Flickr asking him to remove the link and stating that "...Flickr accounts are for personal use and if selling products/yourself through your photostream [it] could cause account termination."
It seems that as part of the deal with Getty to set up a collection of royalty free, rights ready and rights managed photographs they may be uncomfortable about others doing anything that could potentially reduce their revenue stream.
Following the beta for Lightroom 2 which was released in April, Adobe have now released the final version 2 of Lightroom.
Of course the biggest change between version 1 and 2 is the ability to do local adjustments, changing only part of your image, however there have been tweaks and improvements across all the modules.
Lightroom 2 is available now from the Adobe Store for either US$299/£205 or $99/£81 to upgrade. And you can see Scott Kelby and Matt Kloskowski talking about and demonstrating all the new features by following the video link below.

This is the Jin Mao Tower in the Lujiazui District in Shanghai. I was recently there for a (very) brief visit for work. Unfortunately the weather wasn't that good and with low clouds and exceedingly high humidity I didn't manage to get much in the way of good shots.
Do you use Flickr? Are the photos you've placed there for sale?
Jim Goldstein has posted a thought provoking article on his blog titled, "How Every Flickr Photo Ended Up on Sale This Weekend." The article references a third party, MyxerTones.com who utilized Flickr's API to put everyone's (yes that means yours) Flickr photos up for sale this weekend as cell phone backgrounds.
"But my photos are marked as all rights reserved" I hear you say. Well unfortunately, the Flickr API doesn't stop developers accessing and using your work. Its a difficult dilemma as I don't want to block access with the Flickr API to all my photos as some implementations are useful (Moo.com anyone?). But even if I wanted to, Flickr doesn't even provide this option and instead puts the onus on not using copyrighted material on the developer. In his article Jim points out that if you ask the developers, they will say the photos shouldn't have been posted on a public site if you don't want them used.
The article is definitely worth a read as it raises the issue far better than I could and is very thought provoking. I've already heard of people quitting Flickr because of this so check out the article at the link below.
Jim Goldstein Blog: How Every Flickr Photo Ended Up on Sale This Weekend
Amateur Photographer is reporting that more than a third of MPs have now backed Austin Mitchell's parliamentary Early Day Motion (EDM) petition on the right to take pictures in public places unchallenged by officials, winning cross-party support from 231 of the 646 elected members.
Last week Home Secretary Jacqui Smith responded to the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) following reports of police filming photographers and journalists during demonstrations and protests. However, her reply is being seen as giving the 'green light' to police officers imposing unacceptable restrictions on the rights of photographers. The Home Secretary wrote:
'... Decisions may be made locally to restrict or monitor photography in reasonable circumstances. That is an operational decision for the officers involved based on the individual circumstances of each situation.'
Austin Mitchell plans to raise the issue directly with Home Office Minister Tony McNulty, however it now seems unlikely that this will take place before Parliament's summer break.
